Building Safer and More Reliable Artificial Intelligence: A look at Suite5’s work in the cPAID project

In the ever-evolving world of technology, ensuring that Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems are safe and reliable is becoming increasingly important. The core ideas behind cPAID work exactly towards this goal, and the role of Suite5 Data Intelligence Solutions in these efforts is significant.

One of Suite5’s key contributions within cPAID is to help develop a clever system known as a “Generative Adversarial Artificial Intelligence module”. This could be described as a creative tool which can imagine and produce very sophisticated, simulated attacks, specifically designed to test AI systems. These aren’t real cyberattacks causing harm, but rather carefully crafted challenges. The purpose of generating these “attack vectors”, or methods of attack, is to investigate and understand how current AI might be vulnerable.

By using these simulated attacks, the partners of the cPAID project can effectively train and re-train their core Machine Learning and Deep Learning models. This process is a bit like proactively training the AI, making it stronger and better prepared to defend against both threats we already know about and new, unforeseen ones. This proactive approach also means that any weaknesses in AI systems can be found and fixed earlier.

Beyond developing this specific module, Suite5 is also leading the Work Package called “Adversarial Artificial Intelligence Prevention and Capacity Building“. This involves several important goals. One is to create a special virtual environment, a kind of digital practice ground, where AI professionals can learn more about these adversarial attacks and improve their skills. Another objective is to implement a smart, Machine Learning-driven system for managing risks, with human oversight. Finally, in this Work Package we are designing an AI-assisted system that can detect and prevent these digital intrusions, and even learn from its experiences to become more resilient over time.

For Suite5, being involved in the cPAID project is also a way to grow their own expertise. They aim to deepen their understanding of advanced technologies like Generative Artificial Intelligence, which includes things like Generative Adversarial Networks and Large Language Models. By experimenting with these, they hope to make their existing smart solutions even more robust and discover new possibilities for what their technology can do.
